Medical Volunteering – all Health Care volunteers are needed.
Medical volunteering programs are arranged by DocTours. We arrange medical electives and voluntary work in developing countries for Doctors, Nurses, Students and all Medical Professionals.
Non-medical partners are always needed to help teach English or assist in many other areas. Take the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and combine your next holiday or conference with a volunteer program.

Overview of the DocTours process
An outline of the process is usually as follows:
- Complete the Online Application Form and attach (or email) your supporting documents.
- Written confirmation of your placement is normally provided within a week.
- Your deposit of AUD$495 will be required to confirm your place.
- Contact STA Travel if you would like assistance with your flights, optional tours or travel insurance. STA Travel provides special offers and benefits for volunteers and therefore please call direct: Email: doctours.au@statravel.com Phone: 1300 675 435.
- Arrange a Working with Children Check (all destinations) or a Police Background Report (if travelling to Cambodia).
- Final payment is due two months prior to departure.
- Check on current vaccinations required with a travel doctors such as TravelVax, phone 1300 360 164 (www.travelvax.com.au)
- Approximately one month prior to departure you will receive a package containing your travel documents, a handy luggage tag and an information guide on your destination with tips on clothing, culture, travel, contacts, what to pack, safety, security, etc. DocTours has also partnered with AirborneAid.org.au to help distribute donations of medical donations to developing countries. Please let AirborneAid know in advance if you will have some spare room in your luggage to help with this worthy cause!
You will be challenged by working in a foreign environment, practising back to basics medicine with very limited resources and see patients that present with conditions at a fairly advanced stage.
We recommend that you approach volunteering with an open-mind and the goal to just do the best you can.
