Our projects in Fiji for medical electives and healthcare students are a world away from the luxury tourist resorts. We have projects on the largest island of Viti Levu (known as the ‘mainland’) located in and around Suva, Lautoka and Sigatoka, or on the second largest island of Vanua Levu in SavuSavu, Labassa and at a remote clinic.
DocTours have volunteering opportunities for medical and nursing students who want to gain some hospital experience abroad. Volunteer placements are also available for other health care students including dental students, optometry students and physiotherapy students.
In Sri Lanka, medical electives and healthcare volunteer placements are based at a large public, teaching hospital with 400 doctors, 750 nursing staff and over 1600 beds. It is the largest tertiary care centre in Galle in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. Community projects are also available.
The Vaiola Hospital is based in the capital city of Nuku’alofa and has 200 beds, 52 doctors and around 245 nurses. Chronic diseases such as diabetes and ischaemic heart disease are major issues in Tonga. DocTours has placements for Medical and Dental students, so enquire now for an amazing learning experience.
